This game is played by 2 people with a normal deck of playing cards. At the start of a round the dealer deals 6 cards to each player and then each player chooses two cards to discard into the crib. One card from the remaining cards is turned up and is called the starter, if the starter is a J, then the dealer gets 2 points into his total score. The crib and the starter will be used later. Now the play begins and the player who's not the dealer begins to play the first card and then the other player plays the next card and so on. The running total of points (1 for A, 2 for 2, etc, J, Q, K all have 10 points) of the played cards must not exceed 31, if the player cannot play any cards, then he says "go" and the other player can play until he cannot. If the resultant total points is 31, then the player who played the last card gets 2 points for the total score, otherwise he gets 1. After that the count is reset to zero and the next player play the first card, and so on until both players run out of cards. In addition to this there are numerous ways to score during the play: 1) when the running total is exactly 15, then the player who played the card scores 2; 2) if the last played 3 or more cards form a run of consecutive ranks, then the player gets points equal to the length of the run; 3) if the last played 2, 3 or 4 cards are the same, then the player gets 2, 6, 12 points respectively. When both players run out of cards, then additional scoring begins. For the player who's not the dealer, the score is based on patterns the 4 cards he originally holds and the starter card can form, the patterns in 1), 2), 3) above are scored the same scores as listed above, in addition to that, 4 points are scored if the 4 cards he originally holds are of the same suit; 5 points if all the 5 cards are of the same suit; 1 point if he has the J of the same suit as the starter card. For the dealer, the same scoring applies plus the scores he can obtain from the 4 cards in the crib and the starter card. Thus deciding which cards to put in the crib is a vital step and can affect the final score a lot. After the scoring the next round begins with the next player as the dealer. The game ends when the total score of a player reaches 121.
